Cookie Policy
Effective: April 27, 2026 · Last updated: April 27, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar tracking technologies Thread uses, why we use them, and how you can manage your preferences. It supplements our Privacy Policy.
1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the website recognize your device and remember information about your visit, such as your preferences or login status. Similar technologies include local storage (e.g., IndexedDB), session storage, and pixel tags.
2. Essential Cookies
These cookies are strictly necessary for the Service to function. They do not require consent.
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Provider |
|---|---|---|---|
| sb-* | Authentication session (Supabase Auth). Required to keep you logged in. | Session | Supabase |
| thread-consent | Stores your cookie consent preferences. | 6 months | Thread |
| thread-last-project | Remembers your last opened project for convenience. | 1 year | Thread |
3. Analytics Cookies
These cookies help us understand how users interact with the Service so we can improve it. These are set only with your consent.
At this time, Thread does not use third-party analytics cookies. If we introduce analytics in the future, we will update this policy and request your consent before enabling them.
4. Local Storage (IndexedDB)
Thread uses IndexedDB to store your documents, projects, and preferences locally in your browser. This is a core feature of our offline-first architecture and is necessary for the Service to function. This data is not shared with us unless you subscribe to a paid plan and enable cloud sync.
| Storage | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| IndexedDB (thread-db) | Stores your documents, projects, and metadata locally for offline access. | Persistent until cleared |
| localStorage | Stores UI preferences and sync state. | Persistent until cleared |
5. Third-Party Services
Our third-party service providers may set their own cookies when you use the Service:
| Service | Purpose | Cookie Type | Can be disabled? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supabase Auth | Session management and authentication | Essential | No |
| Polar (polar.sh) | Payment processing (only during checkout) | Essential | No |
| Google OAuth | Single sign-on (only when you click "Continue with Google") | Essential | Yes (use email login instead) |
6. Managing Your Preferences
Cookie consent banner: When you first visit Thread, we will ask for your consent via a cookie banner. You can accept all cookies, reject non-essential cookies, or customize your preferences.
Changing your preferences: You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking the cookie settings link in the footer or clearing the thread-consent entry in your browser's local storage. This will show the consent banner again on your next visit.
Browser settings: You can also manage cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Note that blocking essential cookies may affect the functionality of the Service.
7. Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), you have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. Thread does not sell or share your personal information for advertising purposes. We have never sold personal information and have no plans to do so.
If this changes in the future, we will update this policy and provide a clear "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link as required by law.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. Material changes will be accompanied by a new consent request via the cookie banner. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.
