What it has never had is a model of your world: the story bible sits in folders the draft cannot see, so keeping the two in agreement is your job. Thread links them, so a character card and the chapter contradicting it are one click apart.
From Obsidian
Obsidian gives you a linked story bible and a graph, free and local, and it is genuinely good at that. It is an awkward home for the manuscript itself — chapter order, draft targets and a publishable export each need a plugin, and the plugins do not agree with each other. Thread keeps the wiki-links and the graph and treats the novel as a first-class object.

- What are [[wiki-links]]?
- Wiki-links are a way to connect documents using double brackets. Type [[Character Name]] in any document, and Thread creates a link to that document. The graph visualization shows how all your linked documents relate to each other, making it easy to explore your world's connections.
- Is Thread free to use?
- Yes. The Free tier includes a full markdown editor with live preview, [[wiki-links]], an interactive graph, document types and tags, drag-and-drop file organization, and cloud storage. You can create up to 3 projects with 100 documents each at no cost. Your work is always saved to the cloud.
- How does AI work in Thread?
- AI features are optional and privacy-respecting. When you choose to use them, your content is sent to OpenRouter for processing, and neither Thread nor OpenRouter uses your content for model training. The Free tier includes 20 AI calls per month so you can try AI features. Writer includes 500 calls/month.
- What formats can I export to?
- On the Free tier, you can export to Markdown. Writer adds PDF, DOCX, and EPUB export. All exports use standard formats with no lock-in.
